Bacalar Mexico 🇲🇽 7 Shades of Blue Freshwater Lake | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids

Have you ever heard of Bacalar? Or the Lagoon of 7 colors? Neither did we until we visited Playa del Carmen and discovered this beautiful gem of a lake. Yes, it's an actual lake that looks like the Caribbean Sea. It's waters go from blue to turquoise hues.

It's located in southeastern Mexico near the Belize border. It has a fort called Fuerte de San Felipe which was built in the 18th-century and now houses a piracy museum displaying colonial-era weapons and artifacts. To the south is Cenote Azul, a small, deep lake with underwater caves which feed into Lake Bacalar.

It's a paradise to be discovered and not to be missed!
