Harkerside Moor and Reeth, Swaledale, UK

This is a 4 ½ mile walk starting from the beautiful village of Reeth then walking up to the moor of harkerside then along the River Swale back to Reeth. Reeth is a small village located west of Richmond district of North Yorkshire. It sits on the slopes of a valley between Swaledale and Arkengarthdale and makes for an ideal base to explore the two dales.

When out walking in the Dales you will see many footpath signs which indicate the right of way and should be followed. It is also always best to take an Ordinance Survey map as a useful reference to ensure that you are walking in accordance with the public access. Also when driving or walking in the countryside please be aware of the Countryside Code and follow the guidelines given. Always follow the designated paths and leave gates as you find them. Most gates will be closed and secured to stop animals escaping, but sometimes the farmer will leave them open to allow animals access to food and water.

The saying ‘leave only footprints, take only pictures’ will help you to remember to be a respectful visitor to this lovely part of the World. Please don’t have BBQs or fires as this can lead to devastating wildfires, especially when the land is dry. Our canine friends also enjoy walks in the countryside but they should be kept under close control at all times, and on a lead near animals so as not to scare or attack them. For more information about countryside code please check this link https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-countryside-code/countryside-code-full-online-version.
