Japan prepares for USA Invasion #ww2

Japanese Officers believed that it was better to sacrifice every living soul in Japan rather than surrender to the enemy. As one Japanese Officer put it: “Each citizen was to be prepared to sacrifice his life in suicide attacks”

And so, they would look to mobilise the entire civilian population of fighting age, men and women, a total of 28 million people. Most would be armed with only spears, clubs or swords, but all would share the same determination. That they would fight to the death in order to protect their homeland. Even children were expected to join the fight, as had been the case on other islands like Okinawa, with their small size making them perfect candidates for suicide bomb attacks against American tanks.

The defence of Japan, however, would not just be limited to ground preparations. The Army General Staff had gathered over 10,000 aircraft on the island of Kyushu, all to be used in Kamikaze strikes against an invading American fleet.
