Real Shoemaker (& Abby) Try a Beginner Shoemaking Kit
I often get questions about shoemaking kits, so I figured it was time to answer them properly! @AbbyCox and I are taking on sandals from The Shoe Camaraderie (and hopefully not setting the house on fire). As a historical shoemaker, I don't have a lot of experience with modern techniques, but the concepts are familiar. But, as many of these kits are aimed at the absolute beginner, I've brought Abby along to test things out as well!
Kits from https://theshoecamaraderie.com/
Abby made Astrid, I made Ines. As noted, they are going on a one year break and are having a sale which was extended to August 7th to deal with sudden demand, but may not have enough available for everyone (there are other options below).
Shoemaking kits (or sandal making kits) can be a great way to start out learning this new skill or to just do a fun adult craft! Some are sold as complete bundles with instructions, supplies, and tools. Others will sometimes split these parts up, so be sure you're grabbing everything you need (and nothing that you don't). I was honestly surprised at how easy it was to tailor our supply needs when purchasing, as I already have a fairly full kit of shoemaking tools.
