- the quiet crackle of a fireplace, lit to warm the chill of early morning and burn away the clinging damp
- wild songbirds (linnets, mockingbirds, robins, blackbirds, and other courtly troubadours) serenading the princess with particular sweetness, as if they know that their melodies are the first thing she hears as she awakens
- peacocks given aristocratic freedom to wander the castle grounds, calling to each other (or perhaps, indeed, to the Royal Family themselves) with a haughty unrestraint
- the drowsy, half-roused purring of the beloved royal pet, a cat who is the truest companion to the princess, and who has, just weeks ago, offered the princess the friendship of a litter of kittens, all of whom are curled next to their mama in sleep except for one: his startlingly alert gaze greets the princess as she flutters open her eyes, and his tiny meows bid her "good morning"
- a flock of sheep bedecked in bells and a similarly musical herd of cows, both of which are guided over distant pastures and harvested fields to graze & forage before the long overwintering begins
- horses, carts, & carriages passing at a sprightly morning pace
- embroidered bed-linens smoothed back into place by a vigilant lady-in-waiting after the princess rises, creating an impeccably unwrinkled plushness that is soon dimpled by eager paws
- mama cat enjoying her breakfast (the choicest morsels left from last night's feast, offered by a royal companion on royal china) while her kittens suckle and partake in an equally generous breakfast of their own
- the ladies-in-waiting beginning their morning attendance upon Her Royal Highness: presenting the fine porcelain basin of perfectly warmed water with which they wash her (since a princess must not even bathe herself); brushing & coiffing her hair into magnificent sculptures of charm; caressing, patting, and massaging her skin with elegantly scented tonics & creams; arranging & opening a tidy display of little flowered makeup jars with little flowered lids; commencing the refined & masterful art of cosmetics to create a lead-white canvas on which the bloom of lips & cheeks is painted; bringing forth a tray of small crystal bottles, each with its own exquisite perfume, which are opened & held out to the princess, one by one, until at last the violet essence strikes her fancy
- the swish & sway of silk from a coterie of extravagant dresses, brought out for the princess to peruse in hopes that one will be to her liking; the soft bustle of helping Her Highness into her petticoats, stays, skirts, and bodice
- the creaking-open of wooden boxes holding fashionable accoutrements, gathered to complement the chosen gown; the muted clicking & clattering of pearls, enameled beads, and jewels set in gold
- the deferentially quiet but resolute footsteps unique to servants, heard passing through nearby corridors
- the subtle scribble & scratch of a quill pen, as the most meticulous lady-in-waiting writes a letter for her mistress in a flawless, tastefully elaborate hand
- the hushed but merry giggling & murmuring of the ladies-in-waiting, who make sure to keep their voices pleasingly low during the morning hours
- the lively chatter & laughter of young princes and princesses, heard just beyond their sister's chamber
- a small mantle-clock chiming cheerfully every half-hour
