Hello!

My name is Joanne Devaney.
I am a sheep shearer and I help on the home sheep farm in the Northwest of Ireland. We have mountain sheep on three separate mountains around the county. We also keep a small flock of lowland sheep. We have 6 sheepdogs: Spotty + Jessie (my dogs), Glen (who I often work too!), Jock, Sally and Casey. My favourite time of year is the lambing in Spring. I love assisting ewes and saving little lives, and nothing lifts the spirit like lambs playing in the field!

I am in 2nd year of Agricultural Science in University College Dublin. I'm majoring in Animal and Crop Production. I shear in competitions in the Intermediate shearing grade. I came 3rd in the All-Nations Intermediate shearing at the World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships in France in 2019 as well as winning the Best Pen prize. I came 11th in the All Nations Womens Shearing. In August 2020 I shore 351 sheep in 8 hours. Check out my YouTube video on it! https://youtu.be/6GnVZT4guQA

I'm on the National Woolhandling team and came 4th in the All Nations Senior Woolhandling in France in 2019. I came 29th in the World Championship Woolhandling too! I spent 8 months in Australia in 2017/18 shearing and competing. I enjoy a little showjumping with my horse Phoebe. I also still own my first pony Patch, who is now ridden by my sister.
