Train Cab Ride NL / Dinner Train / Watergraafsmeer - Haarlem - Heerhugowaard / Feb 2020

Hi everyone! Today a very special ride that has been waiting for you to see it for a long time! But I finally got my permission to post is on my channel. So here it is! A cab ride on the Dinner Train in The Netherlands!

We're going a little bit back in time. It's the 15th of February 2020 and on this day we made two dinner rides. I will take you on the first on, including the part from getting us from the shunting yard Watergraafsmeer to the point where we start our dinner journey.

A little after 4pm (16.00h) we depart from the Watergraafsmeer in Amsterdam. The maximum speed is shown at 40km/h. But you can understand that it's not safe to hit the junctions at full speed. As a driver on the dinner train I personally always take about 20km/h off of the maximum speed. So at the start of video we run the train over the junctions at approximately 20-25km/h. This so the kitchen crew can do its work safely.

After the Watergraafsmeer there's a small conversation with the train manager. I muted this part of the video and put in a short piece of music. It's only for a few seconds, so you'll be fine. Near Heemskerk on the route it's the same. :)

Between Amsterdam and Haarlem we are set aside for a few minutes to let the Intercity service to Haarlem pass by. This because our planned speed is too slow to stay ahead of it.

After arrival in Haarlem we skip some time in the video. After all our guests have boarded the train and the signal is given we can depart. You might mention there's no sound when the doors of the train are closed. This is because there's no such system on board of the Dinner Train. The train manager closes the doors of the train and then in the end gives the driver a signal by hand the train may leave. He then shuts his own doors and the doors are kept locked as the train is moving. For the driver there's no indication the doors are closed. So there must be a very close cooperation between the driver and the train manager at departure.

As we drive from Haarlem to Heerhugowaard you can see the train has a special planned speed that is always lower than the maximum speed at that point. This is for the comfort of the passengers and the safety of the kitchen crew.

In Uitgeest we make a short stop to let the Sprinter train to Haarlem and Amsterdam pass by and then it's our turn to take the train without any other stops to the final stop of this video in Heerhugowaard.

After arrival in Heerhugowaard we took the train with our guests back to Haarlem. Because of the short time I had to change the trains direction I didn't have the time to fit the camera to the window on our way back. That's why Heerhugowaard is the final stop for this video.
