How was a US President almost eaten by the Japanese?

Well in 1944 a group of Avengers set off from the USS San Jacinto. Their mission was to conduct a bombing raid over ChichiJima targeting a Japanese Radio tower. One of these pilots was George H.W. Bush.

But things went wrong pretty quickly for Bush who was hit by anti aircraft fire setting light to his engine. Nonetheless, he pressed on and successfully dropped his bombs on the tower.

But at this point most of the planes were on their last legs, with many of the pilots and crew bailing from their aircraft. But Bush stayed on the controls to get as much distance as possible from the Japanese to give his crew time to escape.

He then finally jumped, landing in the ocean. He was one of 9 who managed to escape their planes.

But it wasn’t over yet because out of those 9, 8 were still captured by the Japanese.They were then eaten. Their favourite part was the liver, being cut up in small pieces and served with soy sauce and vegetables.

However, the one that wasn’t captured was Bush, who after landing in the water, was eventually picked up by the USS Finback Submarine. Bush was only 20 years old at the time but 45 years later in 1989 he would be elected the 41sst president of the United States.
