The Secretive Chinook Gunship (ACH-47A)

This is the deadliest Chinook ever made

The chinook is one of the most iconic aircraft in the world but typically lacks any armaments. Sometimes 3x m240 machine guns are added for air assault missions but other than that it often relies on a guard of apache attack helicopters.

But, back in 1965 they made a monster of a machine, the Attack Cargo Helicopter (47A) that gained the nickname Go Go birds or Guns a go go.

4 of these beasts were made called “Co$t of Living” “Easy Money” “Stump Jumper” and “Birth Control”.

These Chinooks were heavily modified adding two 20mm cannons, a 40mm automatic grenade launcher on the nose, 2 weapon pods that could carry 70mm rockets or 7.62 gau-2 miniguns and 5 mounts, 2 on each side and one on the back that could take 50 Cal or 7.62 machine guns. The windows next to these mounts were widened for greater field of fire and the back top rear cargo door was removed for a similar purpose.

On top of this 2681 pounds of armour was added to the air frame and the co pilot and pilot seats were reinforced to withstand 50 Cal bullets.

This added a lot of weight so the troop seats, cargo hook, winch, heater and sound proofing were removed.

Even with all these additions the chinook still had a top speed of 132 mph.
