2. Rustic Dance 3:14

Performance: Gidon Kremer, violin (1978)

Eugene Izai's six sonatas for Solo Violin (1923) originated as a response to the most complex sonatas and partitas for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach.
All of them are very different in style and form.

Each of the six sonatas is dedicated to one of the famous violinists — contemporaries of the author:
The first — to the Hungarian Jozef Szigeti,
the second — to the Frenchman Jacques Thibault,
the third — to the Romanian George Enescu,
the fourth — to the Austrian Fritz Kreisler,
the fifth — to the Belgian Mathieu Krikbom,
the sixth — to the Spaniard Manuel Quiroga.

Sonata № 1 in G minor
Sonata № 2 in A minor "Obsession"
Sonata № 3 in D minor "Ballad"
Sonata № 4 in E minor
Sonata № 5 in G major
Sonata № 6 in E major
