AVT 206 A&P Sheet Metal Class - P1 - Removing Universal Head Rivets

This video is part of a series from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. This is from Project 1, and is part of a much larger video. This one shows how to properly remove an AD470 universal head rivet. The key is to drill through the center of the rivet head, but only to the base of the head. Use the same size drill bit you used to install the rivet, or one numbered size smaller. (I.E. to remove a #4 rivet, you should drill it out with a #30 bit or a #31 bit.) Tip the head off as soon as the drill has gone through the head. DO NOT DRILL THROUGH THE BODY OF THE RIVET.
