Proxy Recording on Sony a7riv, Sony a6400

Excerpted from http://www.sonycourses.com
Proxy recording is necessary if you're doing 4k files, because when you're doing these huge 4k files on slower systems it is incredibly clunky. With Proxy recording, you can do all of your editing on a streamlined file, then toggle a switch and output to 4k. That's what proxy recording affords you to do. Unfortunately Sony has the file management structure for proxy recording set up in such a mysteriously cryptic way, and their manual is even more confusing!

Then, add to that the mysterious way in which Adobe Premiere allows you to “link” the proxy file to the 4K file, and my guess is if you filled a football stadium with owners of Sony Alpha Cameras, and asked everyone who doesn’t use proxy recording to leave the stadium, maybe two people would remain. It’s like they want to discourage you from using Proxy editing.

In this video, I show how to activate Proxy recording, where the files are stored, and then how to link the smaller files to the big ones, and then output the 4K files exactly as edited!
