U.S. Syria Airstrikes
The United States and five of its Arab nation allies carried out powerful airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria for the first time on Tuesday. U.S. central command released a statement saying 14 airstrikes overnight damaged or destroyed targets in four areas of eastern Syria, including in the Islamic State group's main stronghold of Raqqa. Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates either participated in or supported the attacks, according to the statement. At the White House today President Barack Obama reiterated the resolve of the international community to degrade and destroy ISIS. VOA’s Vincent Makori reports.
