VW Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo (2026) :Volkswagen's all-new compact SUV!
Hey guys, the top-of-the-line SEL R-Line Turbo trim for the 2026 Tiguan features a more powerful engine, making the new Tiguan a truly sporty compact SUV.
The all-new 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo will be the top-of-the-line trim for the model starting in the 2026 model year. The Tiguan Turbo carries over all the excellent features of the 2025 Tiguan—bolder styling, a refined and high-quality interior, and an advanced infotainment system—but adds 67 more horsepower to give the vehicle a sportier character.
Exterior: The new 2025 Tiguan has been completely redesigned on the MQB evo platform. Its body has been redesigned, with a shorter rear overhang and bold, expressive styling, featuring a taller, more powerful nose than the second-generation Tiguan. The Tiguan Turbo features an LED light bar and illuminated logo creating a distinctive lighting signature, as well as slimmer, more contemporary headlights. Its profile is more athletic thanks to a curved cutout above the front fenders that extends into a powerful shoulder line. At the rear, the roofline is extended by a spoiler that optimizes aerodynamics, as well as side vents in the D-pillar and air curtains in the front bumper. An LED light bar and illuminated logo at the rear echo the design of the front end, and a black roof is standard on Tiguan Turbo models.
The Tiguan Turbo features 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a striking color palette that includes three new options introduced for 2025, including Avocado Green Pearl, Sandstone Uni, and Monterey Blue Pearl, adding a vibrant touch to the vehicle's bold style.
The cabin features the new Tiguan's best interior upgrades, such as premium materials like genuine American walnut wood trim, a wrapped and double-stitched center console, and upgraded Varenna leather seats. The gear lever has been relocated to the steering column, freeing up space for a large center console that maximizes storage. The Tiguan is offered exclusively in a two-row configuration for North America.
The third-generation Tiguan benefits from a next-generation infotainment system and user interface for a cutting-edge technology experience. The next-generation 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro system is standard, while a new central infotainment system with MIB4 technology features a 15-inch screen as standard on this top-of-the-line trim. A driving experience dial located on the center console allows for easy volume adjustment, as well as the driving mode selector and the new Atmospheres function, which synchronizes ambient lighting and audio settings.
Under the hood, the Tiguan Turbo is equipped with a more powerful version of the EA888 evo 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder turbocharged engine that powers the rest of the Tiguan range. This engine develops 268 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, 67 hp more than the other models, while torque increases from 207 to 258 lb-ft, delivered between 1,900 and 5,400 rpm.
The performance improvement over the base engine is the result of several modifications. The engine is equipped with a more powerful turbocharger, allowing for higher boost pressure, combined with a lower compression ratio (10.5:1). Inside, the engine benefits from stronger pistons and connecting rods, as well as a nitrided crankshaft. The engine is also equipped with an oil cooling system for the pistons and variable valve lift for the intake and exhaust valves. It still uses Miller cycle technology to improve fuel consumption compared to a conventional four-stroke engine, and runs on regular gasoline.
The Tiguan Turbo's engine also benefits from several modifications shared with the lower-powered engine, such as higher injection pressure, increased from 350 to 500 bar. The intake, heat exchanger, and lubrication system have also been optimized, including a larger displacement vane oil pump. Friction-reducing modifications have been made, including optimized chain drives for the camshafts and oil pump. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The Tiguan Turbo comes standard with 4Motion all-wheel drive.
