Sacramento City Scenes, 1953

A Staff Pick from Film & Video Specialist Chad Williams!

"Stock footage, also known as B-Roll, is film or video footage captured to be used in a variety of productions. This footage, shot in 1953, was produced by KCRA (either by their television or radio divisions, we're not sure) and shows not only amazing pictures of our city in that year but also demonstrates the creative eye of the cameramen who took these snapshots in time. We see buildings in Fresno, UC Davis, downtown and midtown Sacramento, the Sacramento Bee building, street scenes, agriculture and construction, substandard housing, the Sacramento train depot (now the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant), the California State Capitol building, Southside Park, a few moments from the McClatchy Farm Review, as well as kids lined up at The Tower Theatre for an afternoon movie. As often happens with B-Roll, shots repeat, some shots last too long, others are too short, sometimes the picture jiggles, and the editing is far from perfect - but that is the beauty of it. As this reel has no original sound a collection of tunes from 1953 has been selected to help take you on a journey back to a very different era. FILM IS TIME TRAVEL!"
