DISCLAIMER:
I do not mean to brag in any way, shape, or form. I love RISD portfolio videos and i watched tons of them before my application process. I hope to provide a different perspective and helpful tips to applying to art school.

RISD is the only art school i applied to and i did not use any outside resources (art studio etc.) the only traditional art school "event" that i did attend was national portfolio day. I highly highly recommend attending.

ALSO!! I will not be attending RISD in the fall:((

BACKGROUND:
I attended a sci tech high school so art was not my first priority. my pieces were made for class or for fun.

I stopped taking studio art classes before high school, but I took 2 high school art classes: graphic design (9th grade) and AP art (11th grade). A majority of my pieces were created in AP art and before senior year.

I attended my school's National Art Honor Society (NAHS) from 10th through 12th grade. My senior year, I served as NAHS president and started a free art lesson program for Title I elementary students.

My recommendations were written by (1) the teacher that taught me from 9th-11th grade and later retired and (2) the teacher that was hired my senior year and could attest to my commitment to NAHS.
