Marcel, let’s face it, is a bit of a genius. He has spent most of the last two decades working with Tori Amos, so you only have to dig into your music collection to hear his recording credentials for yourself.

In Part One of our new Recording Acoustic Guitar Masterclass, we concentrate on microphone choice for Acoustic Guitar.

Marcel takes us through his thought process that lead to him choosing an omni condenser mic for this application at this time - it’s all about capturing the timbre of this particular guitar. In true Marcel style, he delves deeply into microphone design, how polar patterns are created, why diaphragm size is an important consideration and the proximity effect.
