UK: Several arrested as London's ready to enter COVID-19 curfew

Several people were seen arrested as London's new COVID-19 restrictions including the 10:00 pm curfew on bars were about to kick in on Saturday at 00:01, Friday, as locals gathered in Soho to enjoy the last night before the curfew, protesting against government restrictions.

Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn was also seen present at the event, saying "We are here to drink against the curfew" and "to oppose the lockdowns." He also insisted that "there's no such thing as the coronavirus," as "it's a con, it's a hoax."

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new three-tier alert system to tackle the rising numbers of COVID-19 infections in England, on Wednesday. With the rapid spread of infection numbers in the UK's capital, it has been announced on Thursday that London will be moving from "medium" to "high," or 'Tier 2' alert level. The new measures, applicable in London and a few other cities, including York will mean people of different households will not be able to meet indoors, the rule of six will apply to outdoors, and that pubs and restaurants must close at 22:00 GMT.
