The Somerton Man: Dead on Beach With Secret Code No One Can Crack (1948)

On December 1st, 1948, a well-dressed man was found dead on Somerton Beach in Australia. No ID, all labels removed from his clothes, and an untraceable poison in his system.
Months later, police discovered a tiny scrap of paper hidden in his trousers that read “Tamám Shud” — meaning “It is finished.”
Inside the rare book it came from was an unbreakable cipher and a phone number leading to a mysterious nurse.
To this day, his identity, cause of death, and the secret code remain unsolved.
One of the most fascinating cold cases in history.
