The rhythms of life | Jana Herzen | TEDxCapeMay
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. For Jana Herzen, it's about the "happiness of pursuit." Playing music – and living life – are a lot like surfing. The trick is to learn to expertly ride the rhythms and flows of life, improvising as we go, then we enjoying the happiness of pursuit which includes the ups, the downs and even the wipe outs.
Performer, entrepreneur and life-adventurer, Jana Herzen is Founder and President of Motéma Music, a multi-genre, multi-Grammy nominated Harlem record label recently cited by ‘All About Jazz’ as “One of the most important jazz labels to plant its flag in the 21st Century.” Herzen has performed musically since she was five, is an alumnus of both Stanford and New York Universities and has worked extensively as a multi-disciplinary theater artist – most notably as a co-founder of the influential MCC Theater in Manhattan. Her unusual life has been enriched by off-the-beaten-path adventures around the world. Jana will share songs inspired by her personal journeys, ideas on 'The Happiness of Pursuit', and sparring tales from encounters with her pleasure less and obstructionist inner nemesis, the not so charming Miss Joy Kill.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
