Everyone in Washington who drives has to have insurance. If you've bought a policy, you're probably familiar with the concept of liability coverage, as every policy must have a minimum amount of that type of coverage.

The limit on insurance refers to how much insurance would pay for certain types of damages. Most important to look at is liability. So, if you cause an accident, you'll need to know your liability. In Washington, the minimum liability a driver must carry is $25,000. Usually that's enough, in minor fender benders where no one is seriously hurt. But what if you cause an accident where someone has to go to the hospital and have surgery? Those medical bills can easily exceed $25,000.

This is why it's important to carry as much insurance as you can afford.
