Ukrainian military asks Zelenskyy to mobilize half a million more soldiers in war against Russia

During a press conference on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian military requested that an additional 450,000-500,000 people be mobilized into the army.

Zelenskyy expressed concerns about the scale of the request, saying he would “need more arguments to support this idea” and that it is a question about “people” and finances.

Funding for Ukraine has been held up recently in both the U.S. and European Union (EU) amid political tussles as Ukraine continues to fend off Russia in its full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022.

Zelenskyy, however, claimed he was certain that funding from the U.S. and EU would continue, adding that he soon expects a 50 billion euro aid package from the latter.
