Hiking Alone in El Yunque Rainforest Puerto Rico
Hiking Alone in El Yunque Rainforest Puerto Rico was an incredible experience. It was also my first time hiking solo and it was definitely an adventure! Puerto Rico is beautiful and a great destination for hiking.
Day 1: I flew into San Juan and picked up my rental car around 5am. I drove to Walmart to pick up water and trail snacks. From there I drove to El Yunque (north entrance). I spent the entire day until around 3pm hiking the trails. I hiked Vereda Caimitillo Trail, El Yunque Trail and Mt Britton
Tower Trail. The weather held up for most of my hikes with an occasional rainstorm here and there.
Day 2: I got a late start around 8am and planned to hike the El Toro Trail to the El Toro peak. The prior days were very rainy and after about 1.5 miles the trails were only getting muddier and more slippery. I decided to turn back and attempt one of the more adventurous trails on my itinerary: The Naguabo Infinity Pool. I drove about another hour from the El Toro trailhead to the south entrance of El Yunque which is the start of the Naguabo Infinity Pool hike. This was one of the craziest and adventurous hikes I’ve ever done. The views at the end were totally worth it though!
Day 3: I awoke at 5am to the sounds of rain and it would continue on for the remainder of the day until my flight back home at 9pm. I hiked most of the La Coca Trail and even with the rain it was beautiful. I was also able to venture to see Juan Diego falls and La Coca falls. Nobody was around because of the rain so it was the perfect opportunity to see them!
