“Faith Journeys with God in the Land” Part 24
This episode (Part 24) was recorded at Yardenit, the baptismal location at the Jordan River.
Setting ourselves apart for service in the kingdom of God is what God expects of us as followers of Jesus. One special event that we do on each and every Israel tour is to offer people the opportunity to renew their faith walk with Jesus at Yardenit. This is the location at the north part of the Jordan River. Here, we enter the waters of the Jordan River where faith in Christ is not only declared publicly but where people renew their commitment to Christ to follow as one of His disciples. The word in Hebrew for “disciples” is talmidim. It’s a word that goes deeper than our English word. In the days of Jesus, talmidim were those who not only followed their rabbi, but walked “in their dust” and “drank of their words thirstily.” In other words, these followers wanted to learn everything possible from their rabbi, not missing a word or teaching. They were inspired to follow, no matter the cost.
Whereas the baptisms we offer in the Jordan River are not in any way to negate or lessen the importance of our primary baptism. However, the baptisms we do are inspirationally symbolic of our desire to be set apart as talmidim of Jesus, making ourselves available for service in His kingdom.
Our faith walk with God requires us to daily renew our desire to walk with Jesus. As you walk with God, be inspired to follow as a talmidim of Jesus.
Note: Let me also say how extra special it is when we have new believers on our trips who are baptized for the first time! There in the waters of the Jordan they pronounce their faith in Jesus and their desire to follow and serve Him! It is truly inspirational to the entire group!
