Major Bernard Ellis (1911-1985) from Riddings, Derbyshire, a former Baptist missionary in Calcutta, tells how he went from being a private in the Sherwood Foresters in Delhi, to a Captain in the Chindits, behind Japanese lines, in Burma. He was a Military Observer and Conducting Officer under Lord Louis Mountbatten. HQ was Kandi in Ceylon. Recorded in Odd Down, Bath, in 1983.
