CRUSADE IN THE PACIFIC Episode 8 "WAR IN THE NORTH THE ALEUTIANS" 73062

Created in 1951, "Crusade in the Pacific" was an early television documentary that remains one of the most comprehensive looks at the Pacific Campaign on land, sea and air. In 24 separate 30 minute episodes, "Crusade" journals the War through tons and tons of basically uncensored stock footage, along with the timeless voice of Westbrook Van Voorhis.

This episode of Crusade in the Pacific, "War in the North" examines Japan's invasion of the Aleutian islands in Alaska. The Japanese navy bombs Dutch Harbor shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor and later occupies the islands of Kiska and Attu. Later, U.S. counter-attack by air and sea eventual force the Japanese off the islands. Meanwhile as Japan attacks in the north, the U.S. government forces Japanese-Americans into internment camps (see 4:40 mark).
