Created in 1951, "Crusade in the Pacific" was an early television documentary that remains one of the most comprehensive looks at the Pacific Campaign on land, sea and air. In 24 separate 30 minute episodes, "Crusade" journals the War through tons and tons of basically uncensored stock footage, along with the timeless voice of Westbrook Van Voorhis.

In this episode "The War at Sea", Crusade in the Pacific looks at the naval war on the high seas and focuses on two of the U.S. Navy's "new" weapons -- the submarine and the aircraft carrier. Neither had been used to any effect in WWI by the U.S., but in WWII they became crucial weapons. The episode also examines the supply and mail problem facing U.S. operations in the Pacific.
