Alondra de la Parra and Julian Prégardien: love songs in Copenhagen | Musica Maestra

Alondra de la Parra conducted a program in Copenhagen of what she called Impossible Love Stories – featuring vocal performances by her very real love, her partner, the tenor Julian Prégardien!

For Alondra de la Parra, her appearance with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra at the DR Koncerthuset was her first full orchestra concert in six months, due to the coronavirus pandemic. And it was the first time ever that she and Prégardien had performed a concert together.

Alondra de la Parra and Julien Prégardien talk about why they chose the works for that program. For the tenor, Gustav Mahler’s lovesick song cycle, “Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen,“ is appealing in its authenticity and artlessness. And he chose Maurice Ravel’s “Five Greek Songs” for its joyful contrast to the tragic mood of Mahler. Enjoy excerpts from both of these works in this edition of “Musica Maestra” from Copenhagen!
