Pablo Sáinz Villegas and Alondra de la Parra: meeting of two longtime friends

Spanish classical guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas meets Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra in Zurich. In a little traditional chalet in the middle of the city of Zurich, they talk about their longtime friendship and musical collaboration.
Pablo and Alondra met each other 15 years ago when they were students at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. From then on they played together regularly. In 2010 they recorded Manuel Ponce's "Concierto del Sur for Guitar und Orchestra" with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas.
A highlight of this encounter in Switzerland is a private concert: In the romantic atmosphere of the wooden cabin, Pablo Sáinz Villegas performs Francisco Tárregas' "Recuerdos de la Alhambra". This famous classical guitar piece requires exceptional virtuosity, as it consists of a series of tremolos revealing a wistful melody. It really demonstrates how a guitar can sound like an entire orchestra.
