Puppy Parvo Scare: Deadly Disease, Urgent Treatment
Parvo is one of the most dangerous—and sadly, common—diseases we see in young dogs. In this video, watch as our Licensed Veterinary Technician at Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center treats Everleigh, a puppy battling canine parvovirus.
🦠 What is Parvo?
Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a highly contagious viral illness that can kill a puppy in as little as 48–72 hours. It causes severe vomiting, bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and rapid decline. Parvo spreads through contaminated feces, surfaces, human hands, and even clothing.
🛡️ How We Respond:
At Tier 1 Vet in Alaska, we treat every parvo case with strict isolation protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE), and a triple-layer disinfection system to ensure the safety of other animals in our hospital. We take extraordinary measures to treat infected pets while protecting others.
💉 Prevention is Key:
Vaccination against parvo is one of the very first—and most important—things you should do when bringing a new puppy home. Puppies should begin their parvo vaccine series as early as 6 weeks old, followed by boosters until 16 weeks. This simple step can literally save your dog’s life.
📣 If you notice signs like vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy in your puppy—call your vet immediately. Time matters.
