Clamshell Lighting - Avoid THIS Mistake!
Avoid the #1 mistake of clamshell lighting. To create the classic clamshell look, the main light, often modified with a shoot-through umbrella or softbox, is positioned above and to the front of the subject as if the intention was to create a butterfly lighting pattern. The fill light is positioned below the subject and angled up toward her.
