How To Plan a Photo Shoot

How do I plan a photo shoot? If you've seen my photography you might be curious about how I plan my photo shoots from start to finish. Here's an overview of how I usually pull a photo shoot together and execute it.

The way I plan for a photo shoot really depends on what type of shoot I'm going to do. If it's a freestyle shoot I actually do very little planning and preparation. If it's a concept or a themed shoot, I do a LOT of planning. Same goes for photo shoots that I specifically put together for creating tutorials like my Lighting & Posing Series. For client portraits, like headshots and boudoir, it's not so much about planning as it is about following a loose formula that I've developed over time.
