US president signs TAIPEI Act into law

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed the TAIPEI Act, officially called the Taiwan Allies International Protection and Enhancement Initiative Act. Following the Taiwan Travel Act, this is Capitol Hill''s second piece of legislation with the word "Taiwan" in its name. The Presidential Office released a statement on Friday thanking the U.S. for its support.The act is aimed at increasing bilateral economic ties, helping Taiwan participate in international organizations, and helping Taiwan consolidate its diplomatic relations. The act also authorizes the U.S. State Department to consider reducing its "economic, security, and diplomatic engagement" with countries that undermine the security or prosperity of Taiwan.
