Why is Bay of Blood One of the Most Influential Slasher Films?

When people think of slasher movies, they invariably think of the 1980s, but the form got its start well before the golden era of the subgenre. Today, we travel back to 1971 to revisit one of the most influential slasher films ever made, Mario Bava's Bay of Blood aka Twitch of the Death Nerve.

Bava's film provided the blueprint for the modern bodycount film. With envelope-pushing gore for its time, and scenes that would influence Steve Miner years later as he worked on Friday the 13th sequels, it's impossible to understate how important Bava's film was. It's not the only film that paved the way for slasher movies, but Bava's influence on slasher cinema cannot be denied.

How does Bay of Blood measure up by modern gore standards? We'll score it on the Gore Card and find out!
