Jung and Nietzsche The Revaluation of All Values

For Jung and Nietzsche the Revaluation of all values (aka Nietzsche's transvaluation of all values) was of the utmost importance. This is the transformation of society's and humanity's way of valuing the world. For Friedrich Nietzsche this meant a move away from the ascetic ideal of old religions and a move towards a new way of valuing the world which is affirmative. Carl Jung picked up Nietzsche's thread in his work but because of his discovery of the collective unconscious Jung could not agree with Nietzsche that philosophy and the philosopher were the birthplace of the new values. Instead, the revaluation of all values happens through the collective unconscious. This is the part of the mind which births the eternal value systems of humanity and it cannot be controlled by philosophy but works by its own laws of psychology. It is critical in understanding what was going on between Nietzsche and Jung on this transvaluation of values.
