The Evolution of the Craft of Killing
For thousands of years, people have been perfecting the instrument of killing each other. One can only wonder how much of the planet’s resources have been spent on these tools that could have been used to make our lives better. What heights would science, technology, and medicine reach if these resources were used on them? How many talented people have died in senseless military conflicts? These people could also have dramatically changed our lives.
All these thoughts occurred to me while visiting The Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers, and Signal Corps in St. Petersburg. It seems to me that the primary purpose of such museums should not be to demonstrate the power of the war machine, but to emphasize the pointlessness of the creation of all these weapons of murder and war in general.
