Bonding and Grounding:
Bonding tries to achieve a common electrical potential on all equipment so that a charge does not have to opportunity to accumulate.
Grounding is the process of electrically connecting one or more conducting objects to a ground potential to dissipate the charge buildup in a safe manner.

What is Static Electricity?
Static electricity is an electrical charge imbalance either positive or negative between two objects.
The charge is created by contact and separation (friction) of dissimilar insulating surfaces.
This electric charge remains on an object until it either flows into the ground, or loses its charge quickly by a discharge.

Why Static Electricity is Dangerous?
a. Risk of fire or explosion in a flammable atmosphere
1.Gases or vapors
2.Mists, dusts or fibers
3.Hybrid mixtures of two or more flammable materials
b.Personal injury from electric shock which can vary from a slight tingling sensation to immediate electrocution and result in:
1.Burns and shrapnel wounds
2.Blindness and hearing loss
c.Static electricity is often the cause of fire and explosions when circumstances rule out other forms of ignition
1.Steam cleaning equipment
2.Tank-filling operations
3.Using plastic containers for sampling
4.Ventilating vessels or tanks
Reducing the Hazards of Static Electricity:
Reduce chance of a discharge by the use of anti-static mats, clothing, and footwear, anti-static additives, grounding and bonding
