Refurbishing the Rijksmuseum

How does one re-open a museum with old masters, and more importantly, how does one make that museum relevant for the future? How do we present the collection in a way that is appropriate to the diverse audience of today? How do we use the building which is connected to the busy city? How do we entice people to look at our collection in a whole new way, in fact make them look at old masters in a new and modern way? And how do we navigate between old and modern, ancient and future, stillness and technology, global and local?

Wim Pijbes will take the audience on the journey of the transformation of the Rijksmuseum. He will share his inspiration, his vision, his obstacles, his lessons learned and the triumph that eventually was the re-opening of the Rijksmuseum.
