Leading Women of STEM: Challenges and Opportunities for Women in Tech (May 8, 2023)
Women are underrepresented in tech. Recent surveys by The Burtch Works (2021) show that only 17% of data scientists identified as female, with similar percentages in cybersecurity and information management. This percentage is even lower in leadership roles. Other studies carried out by the Women in Data Science Initiative reveal the barriers that women face in the pursuit of tech degrees.
At the I School, along with the DEIBJ, we strive to make our Cal community more diverse, which is why we invite all people interested in tech to learn from some of the most recognized female leaders in the industry. What challenges have they faced in their careers? How have they overcome them?
We hope that you will leave this webinar ready to embrace the challenges that may lie ahead, and know that you belong in STEM, no matter how you identify.
Organized by the School of Information Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, & Justice Working Group
