Insight and Oversights: Shaping the Future of Visual Analytics with AI — Alvitta Ottley

January 31, 2024 — We stand at an intersection where cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies meet the complexities of visual data interpretation, and the potential for transforming data into actionable insights has never been more promising. This talk will examine the role of machine learning (ML) algorithms in expediting visual analysis, revealing data patterns, and fostering the discovery of novel insights.

However, as we embrace the potential of AI, we must also confront the challenges and limitations it introduces, such as data bias, interpretability, and user trust. We will discuss these and other ethical considerations that we should consider when developing AI-powered visualizations.

Through a critical examination of both insights and oversights, this presentation aspires to guide researchers, developers, and analysts toward a future where AI-enhanced visual analytics not only provides groundbreaking insights but does so ethically and responsibly.
