Airlift Northwest: Academic Medical System Air Transport

Airlift Northwest was founded by Dr. Michael Copass in 1982 based on the belief that all people deserve access to high-quality critical care no matter where they are.

As a not-for-profit service of UW Medicine, our staff puts that vision into the air every day. Every mission includes two flight nurses, and often flight physicians, with specialty training in pediatric critical care, adult critical care, and cardiac devices.

Regionally we provide access to ECMO in partnership with UW Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Every aircraft carries two units of plasma and packed red blood cells to support trauma patients, and specialized equipment for respiratory and cardiac support.

Every flight is supported by our medical directors with 24/7 access to physician support to optimize care in flight, and by the emergency medicine and critical care physicians at Seattle Children’s to ensure tailored care for every patient’s needs.

Our close affiliation with Harborview Medical Center and the UW Medicine system gives us access to the latest technology, research, and resources to care for the sickest patients.

As an entity of UW Medicine, we offer a higher degree of critical care.
