How to Breathe Through Nose at Night

Obstruction study done by Patrick McKeown in Ireland:
-The objective of a study by the department of Otolaryngology at Limerick University Hospital in Ireland was to investigate the effectiveness of the buteyko breathing technique on the nasal symptoms of patients with asthma.
-For example, NOSE evaluation surveys nasal congestion or stuffiness, poor sense of smell, snoring, nasal blockage or obstruction, trouble breathing through the nose, trouble sleeping, having to breathe through the mouth, unable to get enough air through the nose during exercise or exertion and feeling panic that one cannot get enough air through the nose.
Overall the reduction of symptoms at three months follow-up for seventy-two percent without days of corticosteroids, without operation, this is only teaching the body to help itself looking at the relationship between oral breathing, heavy breathing and that's how it's contributing to nasal congestion.
We have to increase the awareness of the importance of nose breathing both in childhood and in adults.
We also have to look at breathing volume.
The rule of thumb is if you can easily see a person breathe during rest, they are breathing too much.
There are 3 things we look for in the breathe:
-The amplitude of the breathe
-The respiratory rate
-Natural pause between breath
You want amplitude to be nice soft and easy, you want natural pause between breaths and you want a normal respiratory rate that is good breathing.
We would expect snoring symptoms to reduce by about seventy - seventy-five percent in two weeks.
Minute volume has never been measured, it has only been measured once in obstructive sleep apnea osa.
All of the studies have focused on airway, we really have to look at the other half of the picture and that is breathing.
