Pastured Free-Range Backyard Chickens: Letting them out each morning
Check out our chickens, they are now 22 weeks old, here in Dallas, Texas, USA. Our chickens are literally free ranging. Each day we open the door to their coop and allow the hens to go out in the backyard if they choose. We let them out first thing in the morning once the sun is up. The chickens have poor eyesight in low-light conditions so they are happy to wait for sunrise.
The coop door remains open all day and they come and go as they please. They'll eventually return to the coop to lay their eggs and they also return every evening at nightfall. They choose to spend most days outside, unless it is raining very hard. They wander freely around the farm, scratching and feeding on the fresh grass and bugs. We also have available for them GMO-Free chicken layer feed. Our hens are happy hens!
