Todd Blanche is Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Justice. He's also the official who, with Kash Patel from the FBI, secured an indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center for fraud. Todd Blanche worked under Pam Bondi at the DOJ with many legal insiders saying that he is both ruthless and effective and knows the levers of power to pull inside the Department of Justice because he was more involved in the operations of the department while Pam Bondi served more as the public figurehead. Now that he is replacing Pam Bondi, he both knows how the Department of Justice works and leads it. He comes from a relatively humble background for an attorney general. He earned his law degree from the Brooklyn Law School while working as a paralegal and then worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office for a number of years before going into private practice. One of his early engagements with Trump world was representing Paul Manafort, who was charged with collusion with Russia in the drama that was the campaign for Trump's first term. While serving inside Trump's second administration, he has shifted resources away from prosecuting white-collar crime and instead focused on identifying and combating misuse of taxpayer funds. He's also shifted resources away from the organized crime and Project Safe Neighborhoods division to instead focus on illegal immigration and combating the cartels. And he has focused efforts on charging companies who pursue DEI initiatives, like IBM, who recently settled with the DOJ on a case like this, ultimately paying a $17 million fine.
