How to STOP Shopping and Emotional Spending

After opening up about my intention to pursue a no buy year, I got asked about what function compulsive shopping was serving me. I also wanted to talk about how to stop shopping and emotional spending.

If you think you can just "shop less" or keep shopping on a budget, I don't think you will get very far in dealing with feelings and insecurities. I compare shopping addiction to substance abuse. When you shop, you are essentially treating insecurities with a dopamine fix.

I had to commit to not shopping and find other ways to occupy my time and avoid triggers. YouTube was a big trigger, so I needed to watch and create content with the makeup I already owned. This is why I started a project pan in 2019 and decluttering in 2018. They became my coping mechanism.
