Greg Alba, John Humphrey & Jon Maturan react to and review TED – Episode 5, “Desperately Seeking Susan,” and Episode 6, “Loud Night,” from Peacock’s raunchy prequel series to the hit Seth MacFarlane films. These episodes shift the spotlight to the Bennett family, blending outrageous comedy with surprisingly heartfelt character growth.
In Episode 5, “Desperately Seeking Susan,” Blaire becomes convinced that Matty and Susan’s marriage is unhealthy, especially given Susan’s habit of putting everyone else first. After Matty storms out of a professional counseling session, Ted hilariously steps in as an unqualified “therapist,” prompting some unexpected honesty. Susan reveals she once dreamed of becoming a teacher before settling down, and after John and Ted’s teacher Mr. George is fired in one of the show’s most absurd moments, Susan briefly takes over the classroom. Despite a promising start, she ultimately chooses to remain a housewife, realizing she’s fulfilled with her life as it is. Alanna Ubach (Euphoria, Bombshell) shines as Susan Bennett, while Scott Grimes (The Orville, Band of Brothers) plays stubborn but layered dad Matty Bennett. Georgia Whigham (The Punisher, 13 Reasons Why) continues to add spark as Blaire, and Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad!) voices Ted alongside Max Burkholder (Parenthood, The Purge) as John Bennett.
In Episode 6, “Loud Night,” Christmas chaos erupts when Blaire’s friend Sarah stays with the Bennetts after a canceled flight. Tensions flare when Matty skips Susan’s choir solo to watch football and makes tone-deaf comments, leading him to wish on a shooting star—bringing his childhood toy truck, Dennis, to life. The episode cleverly mirrors Ted’s origin while poking fun at generational beliefs, especially after Blaire comes out as sexually fluid & reveals she and Sarah are a couple. What follows is one of the season’s most heartfelt reconciliations, as Matty confronts his upbringing and Dennis hilariously reveals he’s been projecting all along. Equal parts outrageous & sincere, these episodes deepen the Bennett family dynamic while delivering classic Ted absurdity.
