A complete travel guide to Schilthorn Switzerland. So we started at Information counter at Lauterbrunnen, right to it is the Cable car center, both these places are just outside the Lauterbrunnen train station.Start the Journey by taking a cable car to Grutschalp, then from the Grutschalp take the train to Mürren. It passes through winteregg but we don’t get down there.

Once in Mürren, it is a 10-minute walk to the cable car station also If you would like to spend some time exploring Mürren, this is a great route to take. From Mureen take the cable car to to Schilthorn via birg. While returning take the other route from Schilthorn down to Gimmelwald Village , where you can have a quick 15 minute peak into the beautiful swiss village before heading down to Stechelberg . There you can catch a bus back to Lauterbrunnen.There are two different routes from Lauterbrunnen that you can take to reach the summit. Both routes are extremely scenic and it’s certainly worth considering going up one way and down the other.

This is the cable car station from where we will start the journey and if you have not purchased the ticket online then you can purchase it from inside this building. So for a round trip to Schilthorn the ticket price is 108 CHF as of 2021, and as I was having a swiss pass hence I get a 50% discount. I would do recommend to check the Schilthorn website, the link of which is provided in the description section below. With Junior Card and the Swiss Travel System family card, children up to 16 years, accompanied by a parent, travel for free. https://schilthorn.ch/en/Infos/Timetable__and__Tariff

So the first leg of journey from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp is using this cable cart which completed in 2006 with a capacity of 100 people. It’s a beautiful scenic journey of 5 mins journey during which it ascends a distance of 1 km.

After reaching Grutschalp summit station you will need to change to narrow gauge railways to reach Murren via winteregg . Do note as it’s a single line hence the waiting time is 30 minutes. So if you find the train standing and you don’t wish to wait 30 minutes for the next one then squeeze yourself into the train as we did. It takes 12 minutes to reach Murren and it passes through beautiful and scenic mountains and valleys. Every where you lay your eye you will be amazed how beautiful is the landscape.

Outside the Mureen station it was cold , foggy and dam beautiful . There are few hotels and I bet the view from those room would be amazing. There are 2 routes with 15min walk to reach the cable car station. One road look a little hike and the other one has a slope down but eventually they both meet at same place. we chose the inclined slope as we had a baby pram with us.
