Oh man these places are bad for crime!

Is America really truly dangerous, or are things blown out of proportion? Well, that depends on your perspective.

10. Arizona

Arizona has the 10th highest number of violent crimes per capita, and the 12th most property crimes per capita. To measure that, we simply measured the number of violent crimes and divided them by the total number of people. We did the same for property crimes - events like robberies, breakins, car thefts.

9. Missouri

Our next most dangerous state is Missouri, which was also the 9th most dangerous state last year. Missouri is the 8th most violent state, and ranks 14th for property crimes.

8. Oklahoma

Our 8th most dangerous state is Oklahoma, smack dab in the middle of America. Sorta. Oklahoma is our biggest mover - up two spots from last year, meaning it’s getting more dangerous.

Oklahoma is the 12th most violent state, per person, and ranks 8th for number of thefts per person.

7. Alabama

This is the 7th most violent state, and its 11th for property crimes. Both of those numbers held steady from last year. Smaller cities such as Gadsden and Bessemer are notoriously bad for crime here. But of all the places in Alabama where you gotta watch your back the most, it’s Birmingham that leads the way of all major cities.

6. South Carolina

We’re going to stay down here in the south for a big stretch now. Southern states like South Carolina remain not only more dangerous, but also less educated and poor.

Overall, South Carolina is 9th in the US for violent crimes, but 4th highest for property crimes.

5. Tennessee
Tennessee’s a little safer this year. Barely. Though you wouldn’t know it in places like Memphis. As a whole, the Volunteer state is 3rd worse for violent crimes, and 10th for property crimes. Last year, it was even more violent here if you can believe that.
