Timisa Reacts to Wild Elephant Dung and the Herd Rush to Surround and Protect Her

An incredible depiction of how the rescued Jabulani herd of elephants react to not only wild elephants, but even simply their dung. As the herd move into the vicinity where plenty of dung has been left behind by one of the wild herds in our reserve, they come on the alert and young elephant female, Timisa reacts vigorously, ears out, head bowing.

The herd, mostly females Limpopo, Setombe, Klaserie, Kumbura and Bubi rush to stand guard, urinating and dropping their own dung, letting out fierce trumpets, waving their heads and trunks from side to side, as they instinctively protect Timisa after her fright. This mighty show of herd guardianship is likely to scare off any potential threats. Once the herd realise all is fine and Timisa is not at threat, they return to their walk homeward as the sun sets quickly.
