This robot crab survives a stingray attack thanks to real crabs. It’s BBC’s robot crab, designed to blend in with crabs and observe them up close. However, during observation, a stingray suddenly attacks the group and starts eating the crabs. Knowing that stingrays, which can eat up to 50 crabs a day, cannot digest hard shells, the crabs quickly gather into a formation with the hard-shelled ones on top and the soft-shelled ones underneath. Left alone, the robot becomes the stingray’s next target. Although it survives the first attack, the damage it sustains prevents it from reaching the other crabs. But just as it’s about to fall victim to the second attack, real crabs surround it, with the hard-shelled ones climbing on top, saving it from the stingray.
